Ariana Grande is getting ready to make her return to musical theater when she performs in Hairspray Live! this December on NBC, but is it possible that the pop star has something else in mind for her future? Something involving cowboy boots and a little southern twang?

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Grande admitted that she wouldn’t be opposed to recording a country song. In fact, it’s something she’s had in the back of her mind for years. “My grandpa, he always wanted me to do something in the country world,” she said. “I don’t know if that would ever happen, [but] if that opportunity comes along, I’d have to say, ‘Hell yeah!'”
Grande added that she grew up listening to the Dixie Chicks. “So that’s the most country I’ve been exposed to,” she said.
With Taylor Swift successfully achieving the crossover from country to pop perhaps Grande could show the reverse is just as easy. Though with her Mariah Carey-esque chops, it would be interesting to see how her voice fits within a country song. In the meantime, she might want to expand her listening to some of country’s newest darlings, like Maren Morris for starters. After all, she’s already doing a bit of pop-leaning country.
